Pakistan has reportedly called on Cricket Australia to show reason in its decision about touring the country next year. It in the same breath however expressed doubt in Australia’s intentions of honouring its commitments.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja this week expressed fears over the international cricket scene looking as if it’s becoming a playground for Asia vs. the rest of the world. He says this is a world that allows Western countries to withdraw from tours in Asia willy-nilly while simply citing concerns over safety and security.
While Australia’s men’s cricket team is set to play a T20 series, a Test, and also One Day International cricket in Pakistan in Feb. and March next year, the Pakistan Cricket Board says it is anticipating the country to follow the same route as did New Zealand and England.
Raja also said the board is eager for Western countries to trust its security agencies in their approach to the safety of players. He said Pakistan’s safety measures in sport is of the best in the world, and that countries in the West should trust those ratings instead of making decisions while more than 20,000 miles away.
Cricket Australia has in the meantime said that while it at this stage has no plans to cancel its upcoming tour to Pakistan, it will however be conducting its own safety investigations beforehand.
Pakistan has not hosted a Test match in 10 years following the fatal shooting attack on a Sri-Lankan team bus back in 2009.
