Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to joining Nottinghamshire as the new overseas player, where he will be taking part in six County Championship games from the start of June. 32-year-old Ashwin will be replacing Australian bowler James Pattison, who is expected to be part of the Australian Ashes squad for July. Off spinner Ashwin had previously played for Worcestershire in 2017.

Talking about his new position, Ashwin stated that it was a good move, and a new competitive standard of cricket and that he can’t wait to get started. He added that he was looking forward to joining with Nottinghamshire and playing cricket at a famous venue like Trent Bridge, and that he hopes that he can contribute to some victories for County Championship. Ashwin is also expected to remain with the team for around a season and a half, after which he will be returning to his home country with a lot more experience under his belt.

Ashwin is India’s fourth highest Test wicket taker with a total of 342, and will be beginning his stint in Nottinghamshire toward the end of June, which will be followed by matches he’s set to play against Surrey and Somerset. The player will not be available for their trip to Yorkshire due to his international commitments with his come country, but is expected to be returning to take on Kent, Surrey, and Warwickshire for the final three matches of the Division One season.
