Cricket Australia has recently announced that it will make sure that all of its women’s teams will be earning the same prize money as the men’s side for the Twenty20 World Cup. They plan to top the winnings up that are set to be paid out by the sport’s world governing body. The International Cricket Council stated that an increase of $2.6 million can be expected for the women’s tournament, with the winners and runners up for the tournament to receive $1 million and $500,000 respectively.

The West Indies earned $1.6 million for their last men’s T20 title in 2016, and Cricket Australia has said that they would be adding $600,00 in order to make up the difference if Australia’s women are able to successfully defend their title next year. CA CEO Kevin Roberts told reporters in a statement that they want to continue their commitment to equality by ensuring that any prize money earned by Australian women’s team in the T20 World Cup is the same as what will be on offer for the men’s side of the event.

Australia’s leading sports federations, which includes the CA, the National Rugby League, and Football Federation Australia, have all pledged to achieve gender equality in pay for both athletes and administrators, a pledge that was made at the beginning of the year. CA has since contracted women at the same base hourly rate as men as part of a five-year collective bargaining agreement.
