The Rangers have become the latest champions football club to join the social media boycott recently launched by Swansea City.

The issue centres around online abuse suffered by players at the mercy of fans, with championship clubs pushing for English Football League clubs to adopt a more no-tolerance approach to tackle the horrendous discrimination recently experienced across digital platforms.

Swansea is leading the ground-breaking social media boycott with players and staff not posting any social media content for a total of seven days starting 5pm on Thursday. Digital platforms included in the boycott are YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Snapchat.

The Rangers have now announced that they’ll be following suit over concerns by what they have described to be daily “racial” abuse and slurs directed at players. Also joining Swansea in their boycott is Birmingham City, who have pledged to join the social media stay-away for the same time period.

According to a statement released by the Scottish football club, FCs are quickly beginning to lose patience with social media companies clearly not intention of paying long overdue attention to the matter or prioritising the issue in any way.

Rangers captain James Tavernier recently announced that every single Black player in the team has been abused in some way shape or form online this season. UEFA is in the meantime carrying out in investigation into allegations of racial abuse reportedly directed at Glen Kamara during Slavia Prague. The player says he’s endured daily racial abuse since last month’s participation in the Europa League.
