Owners will once more be allowed to attend race meetings at some of the biggest tracks in the country as of Tuesday the 23rd of June 2020 as restrictions around social gatherings ease up. Racing Victoria, who governs all racecourses in the state for which its named, including Ballarat, Flemington, and Moonee, will be the first to welcome them back.
A maximum of 30 owners are allowed to attend each race on the card and a time limit will be in place at each track for owners to depart the course after their last runner completes their work. The courses will also be strictly managed in terms of maximum attendance, with 20 people allowed in outdoor spaces and 10 permitted indoors, to ensure social distancing. Owners will also have to have registered if they’re to be authorised entry to the racecourse. This follows the June 3 permission the Australian Turf Club allowed owners to start coming to meetings at New South Wales tracks with similar protocols in place.
Giles Thompson, Chief Executive Officer for Racing Victoria, let it be known on Monday 22 June that he knows just how important owners are when it comes to Horse Racing. He pointed out that they fund the care, training, and welfare of the animals and have kept people in jobs across the state during the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. He steed that he’s proud of the new framework that allows owners to start being welcomed back.
