The deadlock between the Rugby Union Players’ Association and Rugby Australia is getting tenser, with the former revealing that they have still not received the overview of the governing body’s financial position that they requested.

Chief Executive Officer for the RUPA Justin Harrison has condemned RA’s lack of transparency, pointing out that other codes have moved swiftly in terms of engaging in parleys with their respective player unions.

There was a brief upswing in relations after CEO Raelene Castle ONZM revealed that players were a priority for the board’s planning after Monday’s Annual General Meeting, but RUPA is still waiting to receive any documentation. This has left Harrisson with no choice but to take the organisation to task in public.

He released a statement saying that the RUPA is still waiting for the delivery of information detailing the RA’s financial position and the opportunity to analyse it. He said that he’s taking this chance to once more emphasise the need for openness and a collaborative approach from the association before his body can properly define their role in the restructure of Australian Rugby in both the short- and the long-term.

He said that players are approaching the idea of an extensive transformation with a formal, team-centred approach and an acknowledgement that the game has to change quite radically. He pointed out the lack of an open dialogue being pursued and made mention of how other Australian sporting organisations have approached things very differently with a far better outcome for all concerned parties.
