Aussie Nick Kyrgios is making headlines for all the wrong reasons once again – this time round for a raging rant put up against a chair umpire during his third consecutive defeat. Kyrgios on Tuesday got pipped 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 by American Riley Opelka during the first round of the Canadian Open.

The Australian made his way into the competition on a wild card ticket – but now extends his worrying run of defeats by one more, and disappointingly so with a mad rant to boot.

The controversial performance involved an incident during a tie-break in the second set of the match. While Kyrgios claimed his opponent’s foot had scraped the net during a 4-4 tie-point, the chair umpire begged to differ. This caused the Australian to launch into a mad fit while yelling at the umpire about his failure to call the mistake – an oversight Kyrgios claimed cost him the set.

The Aussie appears to be dealing with a lot of pressure from all sides at the moment – including rap faced on his social media accounts. Even so, and despite his recent streak of losses, he remains relevant as far as future competitions go – including next year’s Australian Open, where he’ll be partnering up with none other than American teen Coco Gauff in the mixed doubles.

The Aussie emerged quite the mixed doubles entertainer at Wimbledon earlier this year when he partnered with Venus Williams. His early exit due to injury proved a major disappointment to his fans.
