It’s been one of the worst kept secrets in the AFL world, but Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch has finally opened up about his wishes to move over to the Richmond Tigers team. He’s also announced that once the free agency period is open once gain, the Tigers will table the new contract for Lynch, and the Suns will be given the chance to try and match the contract length, size, benefits.

It’s not likely that Gold Coast will attempt to hold on to their current star forward, and will most likely take an AFL compensation draft choice, which will almost certainly be number three overall, but immediately after the number two selection that the team already holds. If they do decide to put a new offer forward, Richmond will be forced into negotiating a trade for the forward.

It’s believed that the Tiger will be putting forward a long-term deal for the 25-year old, which will most likely be a seven-year contract that pays $1 million per season. Collingwood and Hawthorn fought hard for Lynch, and it seems that it was halfway through the season that the Magpies became part of the box seat.

Eddie McGuire, club president, had wined and dined Lynch at his Portsea property, and Nathan Buckley has since admitted that he met with the unhappy star, which caused a stir over opposition access to players out of contract mid-season. While Lynch’s move is yet to be made official, the announcement will see Richmond’s odds shorten.
