Australian capital announced his resignation from his team earlier in the month after it was revealed that he was part of an investigation involving a series of inappropriate messages that he had sent to a female colleague. Test players for Australia had been shocked to learn of the resignation due to the scandal, but some have come forward to state that they would be glad to have him back in the team.

Batter Marcus Harris stated that while there was some shock amongst the players, they have all agreed that it would be best to have him playing as wicketkeeper for the upcoming Ashes. Harris said that the players had only been made aware of the captain’s decision just half an hour before the news was made public, where he announced that he was being investigated for unsavoury messages that he had sent to a Cricket Tasmania staffer four years earlier.

Harris said that many people were shocked but that they had a lot of excellent leaders in their team. Paine had been playing a local match in Tasmania when the news was released, while other Test players were busy on the Gold Coast. He is also the only specialist wicketkeeper in the Australian Ashes 15 man team. Despite this, chairman George Bailey has made it clear that he is not guaranteed to take part in the first Test as he has to first prove that he’s ready to play following recent surgery on his neck.
