Rugby Australia has promised that they will by wasting no money in the lead up to the 2027 men’s Rugby World Cup. This comes after the country was selected to be the host for the upcoming event and has become a point of concern as the sporting organisation has been known to overspend in the past, and it has pushed the organisation to the edge of bankruptcy.
Hamish McLennan, chairman for Rugby Australia, told reporters that they will need to work out a few details before the hosting preparation can begin. World Rugby administrator Brett Ronbin son was chosen to deliver the news to the Australia advisory panel. Phil Kearns, the Executive Director of Australia’s bid to become the hots of the World Cup stated that he had received confirmation via a text message on his phone, just two days after he came home from the United Kingdom, where the bid had been made.
Rugby Australia had viewed the hosting as a potential way of escaping from their financial woes, especially considering that the organisation was at the brink of folding completely during the height of the pandemic. It took around a year for McLennan as well as Sir Rod Eddington to bring the business to a point where it was able to make a bid for the 2027 World Cup. They left for the UK earlier in the month along with John Eales and RA CEO Andy Marinos, in a bid which ultimately turned out to be successful.
