The All Blacks have won the power struggle waged against Australia for a revised Rugby Championships schedule and final Bledisloe Cup date.

Unhappy about the prospect of the country’s top-order players having to spend Christmas Day bio-bubbled in a hotel room away from their families, New Zealand Rugby has finally managed to bamboozle Australia into a concession by threatening to withdraw from the tournament. Following a new agreement, the All Blacks are now scheduled to play their final game in Australia on December 5. The game in question will be played against Argentina.

Rugby Australia chairman Hamish McLennan’s recent comments regarding the relations between the NZ board and the Aus board being at their lowest ever sparked quite the concerned outrage. All of which had ultimately pushed the decision in the direction of a revised agreement taking into account alternative solutions not previously willingly considered.

The revised schedule includes the match scheduled between Argentina and South Africa for December 12 being moved from the ANZ Stadium to Newcastle. This obviously granted that South Africa decides to compete this year at all. The country’s involvement in the Rugby Championship remains preliminary, with nothing confirmed as of yet.

SANZAAR chief executive Andy Marinos has in the meantime reiterated the two key objectives behind the considering of the alternative solutions so as to ensure that the series does indeed go ahead at all. Player welfare and commercial viability, said Marinos, remain two key objectives previously needing addressing. The alternative solutions have allowed said objectives to remain key and priority.
