Lando Norris has revealed that Australian motor racing champion Daniel Ricciardo is not just way more particular about his car set-up than most others, but that he also suffers from a lack of confidence in general.
Norris, who competes for McLaren, took the stab at Ricciardo during after practice at the Monaco Grand Prix. He’s currently a significant 8 seconds quicker than his Australian teammate. With the lone exception of the Spanish Grand Prix, Ricciardo has been consistently slower around the bends than Norris.
Norris’ not-so-subtle side swipe at Ricciardo clearly drives home the fact that the seven-time Grand Prix winner, who is considered a race-favourite at McLaren, isn’t quite as top-dog after all. Norris hampered on the fact that although fast, Ricciardo only really performs when the conditions are perfect and completely to his liking. Failing this, things begin to unravel, said Norris.
He then began softening his comments by claiming all drivers experience struggles at one point or another, and not unlike the case with most others, this leads to a lack of confidence.
Ricciardo has earned a reputation of being extra demanding of his teams, and exceptionally so since he made the switch from Red Bull to Renault at the end of the 2018 Grand Prix season. Not unlike the revelations suggested by Norris, the Australian during his very first season in the black and yellow failed to perform and impress, having finished higher than sixth only once all season.
This has led to the pressure being on as Ricciardo enters the next stage of his career.
