13 Missing Athletes At Commonwealth Games

April 20, 2018 by

The latest statistics from the Commonwealth Games have set an upsetting precedent, one that may have long-term affects on the Games overall.

This is because of 13 athletes who were meant to participate in this year’s Games, but instead decided to abandon their posts in search of better lives in Australia.

The athletes that were reported missing hailed from such countries as Cameroon, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Uganda, and while they are still within the limits of their Visas, they don’t have much time left.

This is along with a number of other disappearing acts, such as the Rwandan weightlifting coach, who excused himself for a bathroom break during the Games and simply never turned up again.

Nearing the closing act, many remained hopeful that the athletes would return for their games, but it quickly dawned on viewers and other teams that the athletes wouldn’t be back.

The Cameroon team chief, for example, had believed that his missing athletes wouldn’t be gone for too long, but by Tuesday, he’d given up any hope, and lost about a third of the number of athletes that were meant to representing their country. The eight Cameroon athletes that walked out consisted of weightlifters and boxers, and left during a late night flit.

Victor Agbor Nso, chef de mission, stated to the media that the walk out so over, and that it was no longer a concern of the Games. He added that the matter was now being handled by the Australian government and the police.
