Tony Cochrane, the Gold Coast Suns chairman, has labeled the team’s performance e this year as rubbish and hopes that they will be able to turn it all around and win the AFL premierships.
The Suns had a stellar season last year, finishing the highest that the team ever had in the last five seasons. This made them a threat in the pre-season, and with Brandon Ellis, Matt Rowell, Rory Atkins, and Stuart Dew on the books, many believed that 2021 would be the year that the Suns made it to the finals.
While they have had some impressive performances, they have experienced several defeats in the last six weeks after facing off against Geelong, Brisbane, and Port Adelaide. This comes after their victory against Collingwood at the MCG and their six-goal win over Hawthorn that had audiences hopeful that the team would follow on their successes of the previous season.
He admits that the entire team is under pressure and there is not one single person to blame for the performance. This is because the team in its entirety is underperforming. He is open to suggestions as to how the team can be boosted and be put back on track for the remainder of the season.
The most embarrassing loss comes after their 50-point loss to Port Adelaide that had AFL experts reeling. Brisbane legend Jonathan Brown has even dubbed it disappointing and embarrassing.
Cochrane has admitted that the team is indeed a work in progress, but he will see it through and turn things around. While it may be difficult, he believes that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
