Jason Roy and Joe Root claimed centuries for their team as the English sailed to a 171 run win for their only warm-up game before the start of the one day series in the West Indies. Root made 114 off 81 balls, while Roy eventually retired for 110 off 82 in their 371-7 against the University of West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI. The hosts only scored 200 while playing at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados. It’s been a turnaround for England after their many losses to West Indies.
England’s five match day one series against the West Indies will be starting at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Roy initially shared an opening score of 129 with Jonny Bairstow, who himself made 46, and then 57 with Root after the English side lost the toss. Eoin Morgan managed eight while Alex Hales, who was batting at number six, fell for s second ball duck. Root dominated with home assault with 11 fours and four sixes before he fell in the over of the innings.
Nicholas Kirton scored the top with 37 for Vice Chancellor’s XI, who were then bowled out with 6.1 overs remaining unused. Adil Rashid scored 2-21, while Chris Woaks took 2-28 and Mark Wood 2-35. The West Indies dominated England 2-1 for their Three Test series, while the day one series will be followed by three Twenty20 matches that will be starting later on in March of this year.
