New NBA Basketball Academy Comes to Australia
Australia has officially been chosen to host the new NBA basketball academy headquarters bringing skills, training and recruitment into the country. The brand new NBA initiative aims to implement recruitment and continued development of teenage players from around the world. The aim is to provide sustainable pathways for youths to a place of higher education and professional basketball.
While the headquarters for the academy are to be based in Australia, the NBA will initially target talented players across the board in China, India, Africa and Australia together. The Australian development program will be expertly placed to find and train the world’s top young players in one place. The dynamic program will provide players aged between 11 and 14 years old access to expert training, advice, and continued support on and off the court.
As part of the development program, the NBA will provide a complete 360-degree experience to the academies. This will include coaching skills, strength training and conditioning, as well as scouting training for the various academies around the world. The NBA aims to provide much needed opportunities to talented youths that show skill and determination. The aim is to reach those players who are not currently in a position to show off their talents. The athletic and academic training will go a long way in shaping the future of the players and hopefully expanding the potential pool of professional NBA players.
NBA to Feature Aussie Players
When the NBA started planning this venture, they studied successful sports training models including the Australian Institute of Sport and the FC Barcelona’s Escola school. In June this year Australia hosted its very first Basketball Without Boarders Camp. Hosted by NBL, the NBA and FIBA, the camp featured mid to top level talent that benefited from extensive coaching and advice from international NBA coaches and players.
Thank to efforts like these, this will be the third year in a row that the NBA will have over 100 international players gracing the courts. This will include eight Australian players set to take their place among the greatest basketball players on earth. To add to this, more than sixty Aussies will be on court playing in the division-1 college basketball tournament in the upcoming NCAA season. Meanwhile the first official NBA academy is expected to be up and running by September 2017, and future basketball stars will soon be in training.
