Fiji Looking To Give Singapore Sevens The Buzz It Needs

April 30, 2018 by

2017’s Singapore Sevens, which came soon after the Hong Kong events, failed to live up to expectations, and many found the event unremarkable. With a small amount of attending fans and with very little overall popularity, the event was more of an afterthought than anything else. This year, however, Singapore aims to be different, and wants to increase its fan base by a huge percentage.

One of the way they want to do this is by making the Sevens more family friendly. This includes a series of family packages, designed to make everyone happy, from the adults all the way down to the youngest children. Organisers of the Sevens are claiming that it will more than their visitor numbers compared to last year.

They expect at least 52000 fans will be at the stadium this year, an increase of about 53 per cent. While many see the Hong Kong events as one, big party, the focus on family in Singapore gives everything a completely different vibe, and organisers have even bands like the Village People and Superdudes to play for the crowd.

One of the biggest problems that Singapore has faced is the fact that because the Hong Kong games have been so popular, it usually meant that the bigger teams were burnt out by the time Singapore’s events came along. This year looks to be different, and many teams are beginning to prioritize Singapore, and it’s quickly shaping up to be a world class event.
